Couple with luggage walking through an airport, heading home

Every December and every summer we get the same kind of message: "I land on the 20th and fly back on the 5th. Can you help with my teeth?" The answer is almost always yes — as long as the plan starts before the flight, not on the first day of your holiday. As a prosthodontist, I work with short-window patients all the time, so here is everything that matters.

Why planning before you arrive matters

The holidays are the busiest time for clinics in Moldova, precisely because that is when the diaspora comes home. Call on the day you land and the first free slot may be a week away — half your holiday. Write to us 2–3 weeks ahead and we can reserve all the appointments you need, back to back.

What you can do before the flight

  • Message us on Viber or WhatsApp at +373 693 11 163: what bothers you, since when, and what dental work you already have.
  • Send a recent panoramic X-ray if you had one taken in the country where you live — it helps us estimate the workload.
  • You can also send a few clear photos of your teeth (smile, upper arch, lower arch). They do not replace an exam, but they give us a first idea.
  • Tell us the exact dates you will be home — we build the schedule around them.

What can be done in a single trip

On day one you get a free consultation and a panoramic X-ray, and you leave with a written plan, ordered by priority, with the price of each step. From there, 1–2 weeks is usually enough for:

  • Professional cleaning — ultrasonic scaling, Air-Flow, polishing — in one visit.
  • Cavity treatment — several teeth can be treated in the same visit if you are comfortable with the length.
  • Root canal treatment — often in 1–2 visits, followed by restoring the tooth.
  • Extractions, including wisdom teeth — with a check-up at 7–10 days, while you are still home.
  • In-office whitening — a single procedure.
  • Crowns and veneers — these need a few lab days between visits, so we start them as early as possible in your stay.

What needs two trips (and how to split them)

A dental implant cannot be completed start to finish in two weeks, however much we would like it to. After placement, the bone needs time to integrate with the implant — usually a few months. So for diaspora patients we split treatment across two trips home:

  • Trip 1 (e.g. summer): consultation, X-ray, implant placement. If it is a front tooth, you will not leave with a gap — we discuss a temporary solution.
  • Between trips: healing happens on its own; you can message us any time with questions.
  • Trip 2 (e.g. Christmas): impression and fitting of the final crown on the implant.

For patients with no teeth or many failing teeth there is Fast & Fixed: implants (4 or 6 per arch) with a fixed temporary prosthesis fitted shortly after surgery, while the final prosthesis is made on a later trip, after healing. These cases always start with a consultation and an X-ray.

"The best plan for diaspora patients is not the fastest one — it is the one that fits your plane tickets exactly."

What it costs — real prices from our list

At Avicenna prices are public and fixed, in Moldovan lei. A few examples from the clinic's official price list:

  • Initial consultation and treatment plan: free.
  • Panoramic X-ray: 200 MDL.
  • Full professional cleaning: 800–1,000 MDL.
  • Cavity treatment: from 800 MDL.
  • Root canal treatment: 800–1,200 MDL, depending on the number of canals.
  • Full zirconia crown: 3,000 MDL.
  • AnyOne G-Diff implant (South Korea), placement: 5,000 MDL; crown on implant: from 3,000 MDL.

Mistakes that ruin the holiday

  • Leaving extractions or surgery for the last 2 days — you need a few quiet days and a check-up before flying.
  • Flying back with a root canal half-done and a temporary filling "until next time" — the tooth must be sealed for good, or it can get infected or crack.
  • Putting up with pain "until I get home" — an untreated infection can ruin both the holiday and the tooth. If it hurts now, write to us now.
  • Not asking for copies of your X-ray and treatment plan — they are useful for your dentist abroad too.

Quick checklist

  • 2–3 weeks before: message us on Viber/WhatsApp with the dates you will be home.
  • Day one or two at home: consultation + X-ray + written plan.
  • First week: urgent treatment, lab work (crowns, veneers) and surgery.
  • Second week: finishing, fitting, check-ups.
  • Before you leave: copies of your X-ray and plan, booking for your next trip.

Conclusion

Two weeks at home can mean healthy teeth for the whole year — if the schedule is set in advance. Message us on Viber or WhatsApp at +373 693 11 163 with your dates and we will have your appointments ready before you land. The clinic is 15–20 minutes from Chișinău, with free parking at the door.
